Fans of British period drama on both sides of the pond will be pleased to hear that the historical advisor for Downton Abbey, Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, OBE, is set to guest lecture aboard Silver Whisper's Voyage 4128, sailing 7 September 2011, Southampton to New York.
Downton Abbey, a hugely successful television series portraying life in a stately English country house during the early 20th century, originally aired in the UK last year on ITV. The programme is currently running in the US on PBS as part of the Masterpiece Classic series.
A descendant of Robert the Bruce, Alastair Bruce is the author of numerous books on British royalty and a commentator for Britain's Sky News and the BBC. He is also a documentary filmmaker and was historical advisor to recent award-winning films such as The Young Victoria and The King's Speech.
As Silversea guest lecturer, Mr Bruce will offer fellow guests on Silver Whisper a unique behind-the-scenes view of British royal life.

Trudy Redfern, avid football fan and Silversea's managing director for UK and Ireland, was aboard Silver Wind when Kenny Dalglish got the call last Saturday to quickly return to the UK to take over as manager of the Liverpool Football Club.
Trudy was good enough to share above photo of Mr and Mrs Dalglish relaxing and enjoying their holiday in one of Silver Wind's lounges. They were joined by Trudy, seated on the right, and Cliff Perry (in the background), who oversees entertainment for Silversea.
It was a wonderful calm moment before Mr Dalglish was to step back into the excitement of football -- and a race back to the UK that left most of his clothing on board the ship in Bahrain. We're pleased to advise he has been happily reunited with his clothes!

As reported in British media, legendary footballer and manager Kenny Dalglish was enjoying a holiday aboard Silver Wind, when he received the call to confirm his role as the new manager of Liverpool Football Club.
He was sailing as a celebrity guest speaker on a 7-day voyage from Dubai, along with 290 other guests who had enjoyed their opportunity to meet Mr Dalglish and hear, first hand, stories of his epic career. The occasion was made all the more exciting as he had to make hasty plans to disembark Silver Wind slightly early, in Bahrain, to ensure he arrived back in the UK in time for Liverpool's match against Manchester United yesterday.
Trudy Redfern, Silversea's managing director (UK and Ireland), who was also aboard Silver Wind as events unfolded, said "It's been a major coup and a pleasure to have someone of Kenny's calibre as part of Silversea's enrichment programme. The guests have been enamoured with his warm personality and amazing achievements. We wish him well in his new role and look forward to welcoming him back to Silversea in the near future."
