Could This Bed Get Any Better?

Bedroom of the Owner's Suite on board Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper.

Silversea guests will soon find their sleep experience elevated to a new level of comfort and luxury with the debut of Pratesi custom-made bed linens.

Founded in 1860 and renowned for creating masterpieces in linens for the Italian and European aristocracy, the legendary Italian linens firm is bringing its high-quality and stylish creations to the beds in every Silversea suite beginning with the 3 September voyage of Silver Spirit, followed by Silver Cloud in November. Pratesi bedding will then be rolled out to the rest of the Silversea fleet in 2013.

The plush new bedding collection, which features 240 thread count, 100% Egyptian cotton satin sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers, will complement an already lavish collection of sleep amenities enjoyed by Silversea guests. These include a memory pillow top and dual-side mattress that can be flipped to provide either soft or firm support, a down duvet, and a pillow menu offering nine different pillow options, from soft down to memory foam, and chamomile or lavender aromatherapy pillow covers.

Sweet dreams!

Step Into the Grandest of Suites

Last week world traveller Ralph Grizzle, publisher of Avid Cruiser, sailed with his daughter aboard Silver Whisper in the two-bedroom Grand Suite 601. The largest suite on the ship, it offers 1,435 square feet (133 square metres) of understated elegance. This spacious, light-filled suite opens out towards the sea with a private teak veranda spanning 176 square feet (17 square metres) and an additional large picture window. Up to six guests are comfortably accommodated in an atmosphere of warm earthy tones and stylish furnishings. There's a living room (with full-size sofa, chaise longue, club chairs and coffee table), separate dining area, flat-screen television, Bang & Olufsen audio system, writing desk, private bar (stocked with complimentary beverages, wines and spirits), espresso maker, two bedrooms (each with TV), two walk-in closets, two marble baths with separate showers, a powder room, and a full-size whirlpool bath.

And there are so many more amenities to mention, we'll leave it to Mr Grizzle to fill you in with all the details and photos. Click here to read his story.

Playgrounds of the Caribbean

Silver Spirit docked in Road Town, Tortola.

There are still islands out there that look like the ones in your dreams. Palm-strewn hideaways in the Caribbean like Virgin Gorda, with its deserted beaches and pristine coral reefs, and Grenada -- uncrowded, unspoilt and seemingly untouched by time. Our intimate ships are perfectly sized for tropical jewels like these. They can visit yachting havens where big ships cannot go such as French St Barts and St Kitts, or tie up alongside the dock in Dominica while others must anchor off shore.

These are idyllic places where you can enjoy a day of snorkelling, or river tubing or napping in the shade of a palm, and then return to the enviable luxuries of Silversea: spacious suites with butler service, almost all with private verandas; unsurpassed cuisine thanks to partnerships with Slow Food and Relais & Châteaux; and groundbreaking concert-style productions that are setting a new standard in entertainment at sea.

And an Onboard Spending Credit for discretionary items, like shore excursions or boutique purchases, is included in your fare on all voyages in 2012 and 2013 (with the exception of Silver Explorer expedition cruises) -- making this an excellent time to discover the charming islands of the Caribbean.
