March 2008

At the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention in Florida, we announced that our newest all-suite ship would be named Silver Spirit and would join the fleet in late 2009.

September 2008

The 540-guest Silver Spirit under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. Renowned Italian architect Giacomo Mortola and team designed the 36,000-ton, ultra-luxury vessel.


October 2008

The construction progresses.

 

November 2008

Construction proceeds well and on schedule.

January 2009

Captain Angelo Corsaro is assigned as Master of the Silver Spirit. Captain Corsaro has been with Silversea since our beginning in 1994.

Silversea President and CEO Amerigo Perasso revealed some specific Silver Spirit highlights to the press:

  • 540 guests
  • The largest suites in the fleet -- 95% have a private veranda
  • 6,700 cubic feet of space per guest – one of the highest space-to-guest ratios at sea today
  • 8,300 square feet (770 square meters) just for the spa!
  • 4 whirlpools
  • 6 dining venues (read more about this in future blogs)

 

February 2009 

Silver Spirit is ‘floated out’ (transferred) from dry dock to wet dock at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. An important milestone event marked by an official ceremony.
